Free
Science Fair Projects
Free science fair projects can be a lot of fun since nobody wants
to spend a lot of money on supplies for projects. Below is one of
several engaging free science fair projects. And, free is one of
the best kinds of science fair projects there is!

Problem: Is it possible to speed
up the growth of a plant? This experiment will show what effects
heating and cooking have on a plant.
|
|
Research: All over the world, there are farms and agricultural
centres. All of these farms and centres plant raw seeds, which turn
into the vegetables that we eat. However cooking beans for a few
minutes may make them more fertile. Another benefit that cooking
the beans may destroy harmful bacteria, which would also result
in healthier plants. It's possible that it could also quicken the
process by destroying all of the unwanted material. To learn from
this experiment, the measures must be accurate and the information
must be correct.
Hypothesis: When a food is boiled, it will destroy bacteria
and unwanted material. This means that planting cooked beans may
quicken the process as there is no bacteria and unwanted materials
to retard the growth of the plant. The beans that have been cooked
longer should grow better when planted cooked than those that are
planted less cooked or not cooked at all.
Material: This experiment uses lentil beans.
Procedure: Using half a pound of beans place them in a pot
that is filled 1/3 with water. Take seven glass dishes and label
them A-G. Use paper towels to line the bottom of the glass dishes.
Take a spoonful of beans and place them in glass dish A. Do not
cook this sample at all. Start boiling the pot of beans. Remove
some beans after five minutes and place them into glass dish B.
Record that these beans have only been cooked for a few minutes.
Then wait for ten minutes and put a spoonful of beans into glass
dish C. Record that these beans have been cooked for ten minutes
At the fifteen minute mark, take a spoonful of beans and place them
into glass dish D. Record that these beans have been cooked for
fifteen minutes. Wait another five minutes and place a spoonful
into glass dish E. Record that these beans have been cooked for
twenty minutes. Wait another five minutes and place a spoonful into
glass dish F.
Record that this sample has been cooked for twenty-five minutes.
The last sample will be taken out five minutes later. This spoonful
will be placed in glass dish G. Record that these beans have been
cooked for thirty minutes. After cooking the beans, take seven damp
paper towels and lay them on top of the beans to keep them moist.
Lay them beside a window so they can receive sunlight. Water them
daily to keep them moist for four or five days and wait for the
results.
