Science Fair Topics

Deciding on which science fair topics will work optimally can be frustrating. It's sometimes hard to know what you will find interesting and what others will find interesting. But you don't always just have to sit around and think about possible science fair topics.

In fact, sometimes this can be the least productive way to come up with a topic. There is no doubt that there will be times when you will need help in thinking of a list of quality science fair topics.

Books can be a big help with science fair topics. They will often give lists that will offer some inventive ideas. Often just by browsing through these lists, you will come up with a winning idea of your own. While looking through these lists, think about something that would make you stop and look if you were passing by it, something that you are interested in, or something that you may already know a lot about.

Curiosity also makes for some of the most creative science fair topics. If your interested in boats, you may have always wondered how they float. You may wonder as you're doing dishes how bubbles get their shape. Look through newspapers and by reading some of the stories, start thinking about how some of the problems (especially environmental) could be solved. Watching television could also spark some ideas. Look at the commercials and see what they are claiming. By doing some simple experiments, you can see if the claims hold true when they are put to the test.

You can also ask people for help in finding sorting out your science fair topics. Here there are a few things to keep in mind. Most people will not be happy if you call them, ask a question and ask them to tell you the answer. Not only will they will not be impressed but this doesn't really help you in sorting through your science fair topics.

You could try saying something such as, "I am trying to come up with a truly great science experiment regarding mammals. What is your favorite mammal and why?" Based on that, you may find out things such as their favorite animal is the elephant and they've always wondered why they're so big, why they have tusks, or why their trunks are so big. Based on this information, you will have an idea of a science fair topic that may be interesting.

Also take into consideration what equipment you will need when thinking about science fair topics. If it is something too advanced, the equipment needed to obtain any kind of data will be too advanced as well. Just because you may need advanced equipment doesn't mean that you have to forego the project entirely. You may just have to rethink a way to get the data you need or you may have to revamp your topic a little bit so it can be a little more basic.

Choosing science fair topics needn't be something that you struggle over. By just doing a little research and maybe a little bit of thinking about what interests you and what you've always wondered about, deciding on one or several science fair topics can be some of the most fun with the project!
