Science
Fair Projects
Science fair projects can be a lot of fun but they can also be
overwhelming. When thinking about science fair projects, first you'll
need to decide how you are going to investigate your list of ideas.
Then you need to sort through the list, compile the data, and the
list goes on and on.

It's no wonder people can get overwhelmed
just by thinking about these science fair projects.

But, to avoid becoming stressed and anxious over the list of science
fair projects from which to pick, you'll just need some organization.
A step-by-step plan to get your project from start to finish is
all you need!
The first thing you need to do is select a topic. This can be done
by looking through books, researching on this website, or by just
focusing on what interests you. Whatever you decide to do your topic
on, make sure that it is something that you are interested in. This
way you will stay motivated and passionate about your science fair
project.
After you have decided on your topic, you are going to need background
information about it. Again you can collect this information by
researching books and the Internet. Magazines and newspapers may
also be a good source of information. If you find you still need
more information, try talking to people to see what they may be
able to offer. Even if they can't give you specific information,
they may say something that sparks an idea in you of what else to
get and where else to look.
You then need a scientific method. You will need to clearly state
what you are trying to find out. You also need to choose variables
that will help you find your answer. You also need to clearly state
your hypothesis - this is what you think will be the result of your
project. You also need to show how you will measure your results.
The next step is the fun part, which is running the experiment.
As you go through, write down everything that you see and everything
that happens and keep your notes in one place. You might need them
later.
After the experiment, construct a display or an exhibit that shows
what you did. Clearly explain the whole process of the experiment
from beginning to end. Show the scientific method that you used
but make it interesting. Make sure that you find it interesting.
If you don't find it interesting chances are nobody else will either.
You then need to write a report on what you did and how you did
it. This is mainly for the judges to look at but might also be interesting
for others to look at as they pass your display. Make sure you tell
everything about your project from how you came up with the idea,
to background information, to details about doing the experiment
and the results you ended up with.
Next practise your presentation. This can be done on anybody and
it will give you the confidence of knowing exactly what you're going
to say and how you are going to prove your point.
And lastly, go to the fair and have fun! Check out all the other
science fair projects and compare your efforts to those of your
friends. Remember, it's not about the winning when it comes to science
fair projects, it's all about the doing!
